Mtwara Province is in South East of Tanzania having a population of 1,128,523 according to the Census of 2002 with a majority being Muslims.
The Economy of that Province depends largely on Cashewnut production, is surrounded by the Indian Ocean and has a small port which has been neglected for long. This province has large deposits of Minerals including Gas reserves, Uranium etc. But in spite of all these resources being discovered, the inhabitants are living in a state of abject poverty. Even though colonialist Britain built a jetty during their reign in 1954, not because of aiding or benefiting the inhabitants but actually to export various commercial produces like Timber, Cashewnuts etc. Thus no fundamental benefit was gained by the inhabitants of this area.
